I have 15 years of experience with tutoring, teaching, and training in various subjects (including math, critical reading, essay composition, data analysis, public policy, and political economy). I worked for several years as a standardized test and academic subject instructor in private, small group, and classroom formats, first as an employee of a large tutoring company in California and later as an independent tutor. At the University of Miami, I taught undergraduate classes. Other professional teaching experiences include curriculum development workshops for Miami-Dade public school teachers and policy training workshops in a governmental setting. Throughout the years I have developed a dynamic personal teaching style that balances encouragement and toughness. I observe and interact with my students to diagnose and correct areas of confusion, provide clear explanations and examples, and engage and challenge students to reach their highest potential through practice. When preparing students for standardized tests, I ensure that students learn, practice, and apply test-taking strategies to achieve results on test day. Finally, I take care to work with parents and teachers in a professional and productive manner.
